About

The Colonial Virginia Chapter of the Holly Society of America had its first organizational meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1991 with twenty one persons present. The Holly Society of America granted us official chapter status in June, 1992. Since that time, we have met twice a year, spring and fall, in various locations in eastern Virginia, including Gloucester Point, Williamsburg, Newport News, Norfolk, Kilmarnock, and Gwynn’s Island.

Meetings usually last from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and include speakers, demonstrations, lunch, sales of holly plants, spring displays, and tours of either private or public gardens. Some of the topics presented include hollies in the landscape, pruning, propagation, new hollies, and holly collections.

A newsletter is published twice a year including information about holly, events of interest, and a list of current officers.

Membership consists of those interested in the plant genus Ilex, or hollies—homeowners, nurserymen, plantsmen, scientists, horticulturists, etc. Chapter dues are $5.00 a year. Two persons may share a membership at the same address. We currently have seventy-one memberships. If you are interested in joining, contact:
